Found Poetry #109

109 (eugie)
the battery on
our second car is
kaput.

we tried
to jump it using
our first car, but
either the battery is
really dead, or
we're incapable of
using a set of
jumper cables.

though i'm not
ruling out the
latter, as i
am the first to
admit my
ineptitude with
anything involving
vehicular innards,
i'm betting on
the former, since we
could occasionally
get enough of a charge
for it to make a
forlorn "rrr-rrr"
rather than the usual
time-to-write-the-eulogy
"click-click-click."

so it seems we need
to replace the battery.

Found Poetry #60

60 (eugie)
i want the soft darkness
of a thunderstorm
wrapping me like a blanket
while the rain chants
and whispers
in my ears.

i love the storms.
with the air so soft,
and the purple-grey sky,
i can't help but be
soothed.

out the window
i see the trees
dancing in the wind.

perfect.

i hope none of
the dancing trees gets
dizzy and
falls down.

Found Poetry #35

35 (eugie)
saw a bird in our backyard,
a tiny thing,
a walnut on steroids,
black and white wings with a black head.

tried to get a picture, but my photograph
ended up a blurry black-and-white feathery lump.

after it flitted away,
a tiny red-brown bird,
like a female cardinal in miniature,
hopped along.

are these fledglings or
an influx of lilliputian birds?

Found Poetry #17

17 (eugie)
spent the evening reworking
the obsession short story.
added the beginning scene,
revamped the secondary character,
and modified the ending.

whew.

did pass after pass, and then,
sick to death of it,
sent it out.
skipped the critique step
and lobbed it out the door.

i suspect i will regret that.
i may be getting a bit cavalier on the marketing front.

Found Poetry #16

16 (eugie)
attended the third of three
mandatory unemployment workshops.

they gave out a test that asked
if you liked, disliked, or were ambivalent

about a hundred and eighty
jobs/work activities.

got scored on six classifications:
realistic, investigative, artistic,
social, enterprising, conventional.

scored high in "investigative"
followed closely by "artistic"
trailing behind them: "conventional"

well, duh.
that was a waste of three hours.

Found Poetry #12

12 (eugie)
i saw my first firefly of the year last night.

there
were
tiny
golden
flashes

coming from our backyard faerie circle.

glow
bugs
don't seem as commonplace
down
here
as they were in the midwest.

i wonder
if that's actually the case or
if i
simply don't see them as much because
i don't
spend as much time

running
around
outside
after
dark

as I did when i was a girl.

Found Poetry #2

2 (eugie)
apparently my muse was feeling goth,
because she just ate up my blue funk.
(deficient attention span

to go with my grim emotional state.)
channeled my vile mood into my writing.
started and completed two pieces.

cathartic success.
twisted little things, both of them.

the second one, i think,
needs a tweak or two at the end
to punch it up.

i feel like a cement mixer
rolled over my soul.
