New Writing Team: Griffard & Stevens-Arce
One of the more exciting results of my recent trip to L.A. is that Bob Griffard -- a guy I knew from college who until recently wrote for sitcoms -- and I have agreed to team up to try to break into writing for episodic television drama.
I gave him a CSI: Miami spec script of mine to revise and he'll be sending me the makings of a one-hour TV pilot he's been developing so we can write it together. These will serve as sample scripts that his agent will present to shows for whom we're interested in writing, with an eye to getting us a pitch meeting with them.
We've selected Law and Order: SVU (Special Victims Unit) as our first target, so we're currently in the process of getting familiar with the show and its characters by taping and watching the daily re-runs on the USA Channel, as well as the current season's weekly shows. We've also purchased the fifth season on DVD.
Since Bob lives in L.A. and I live in Puerto Rico, initially we'll be collaborating via phone and e-mail. However, when we get to the point where we want to work face-to-face for a week or two at a time, he'll either come stay at my house for the duration or I'll go stay at his.
